SALISBURY — A man has been charged after police said that he called Novant Rowan Regional Hospital and made a bomb threat, requiring the Cabarrus County bomb squad to respond to the hospital.

Officers responded to the hospital at approximately 11 a.m. on Sunday after an employee in the emergency room notified police that they had received a call from a man who had threatened to blow up the ER, said Major Justin Crews, public information officer for the Salisbury Police Department.

The man said that he was going to blow up the hospital because his child had died in the emergency room approximately three years ago, said Crews.

Police reportedly located the man, identified as 28-year-old Catalin Serban, on the hospital property and arrested him. They also located his van in the parking lot and called the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad to search the vehicle, said Crews. The bomb squad reportedly searched the vehicle and found no signs of any explosives.

Serban was charged with felony making a false report concerning a destructive device and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center. He was not given a bond, according to online jail records.
