    Former Clemmons pastor honored

    SALISBURY — Dr. Vincent W. Howell, former pastor at Centenary United Methodist Church on Hampton Road and director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury was recently presented the 2024 Distinguished Alumni/ae Award from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, in Rochester, New York.

    The award was presented in May during the Alumni Weekend Gala. Howell is a member of the class of 1986.

    The 2024 Distinguished Alumni/ae Award acknowledges individuals whose scholarship, teaching, leadership and contributions to vocational formation for ministry reflect CRCDS’s commitment to excellence in theological education.

    The announcement stated, “This year’s recipient, the Rev. Dr. Vincent Howell, exemplifies these qualities through his distinguished career and service to the community. Dr. Howell has made significant contributions as the director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Hood Theological Seminary (HTS) in Salisbury. His leadership extends to the Congregational Faith & Learning Center (TCFLC) at HTS, where he played a pivotal role in empowering and equipping congregations for thriving community engagement. With a rich background in pastoral ministry and a commitment to racial healing and reconciliation, Dr. Howell’s legacy of service and dedication embodies the highest ideals of CRCDS.”

    Howell, a 1975 graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology (manufacturing), resides in Clemmons. While serving at Centenary Church Clemmons, he was the founding leader of The Clemmons and Lewisville Action for Student Success (C.L.A.S.S – class-community.org ) which is a coalition of faith-based and community organizations and schools that work together to benefit school-aged students, their families and the school staff who support them. Howell is also a 2022 graduate of Leadership Lewisville Clemmons.

    Hood Theological Seminary, located at 1810 Lutheran Synod Drive in Salisbury, is a graduate and professional school sponsored by the A.M.E. Zion Church and approved by the University Senate of The United Methodist Church. Its student body, faculty and staff currently comprise people from many different denominations. Hood’s mission is to prepare women and men for bold and creative leadership for the Christian church for a diverse world.
