SALISBURY — The Salisbury City Council will hear a presentation providing an update on the Small Business Assistance Program during its upcoming meeting on Tuesday.

The SBAP was recently started by the city council in partnership with the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce, and applications for the first cycle were accepted until the end of May.

The pilot program provided $30,000 in available grant funding to small businesses throughout the city that brought innovation and had a “unique competitive edge,” according to the chamber’s website.

The presentation will be given by Assistance City Manager kelly Baker and Elaine Holden, the immediate past chair of the chamber.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday and will be held at City Hall located at 217 S. Main St. The other agenda items that will be discussed include:

    • The council will recognize Salisbury Police Officer Kenneth Battle-Hay for saving the life of a four-week old infant.
    • The council will be introduced to the Cemetery Administrator Lindsey Stegall and Capital Facilities Project Manager Jacob Horne.
    • The council will recognize City Clerk Connie Snyder for achieving designation as a Certified Municipal Clerk through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
    • The council will consider allowing Bell Tower Green Inc. to provide in-kind assistance in lighting improvements to Bell Tower Green Park.
    • The council will consider an ordinance allowing the city to demolish the structure located at 518 Foster Lane.
    • The council will receive an update on the city’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
    • The council will consider authorizing the city manager to enter into funding agreements for the allocation of special project funding.
    • The council will hear an update on the employee paid leave program.
