Preview: Salisbury City Council to consider contract to renovate former Wells Fargo into events center

SALISBURY — The Salisbury City Council will receive an update on the Parks and Recreation Event Center and consider authorizing an approximately $300,000 contract to remodel the former Wells Fargo Building during its meeting on Tuesday.

The city entered into a contract to purchase the former bank facility in 2022 with the possibility of the building being used as an events center floated at the time.

The contract, which is with consulting company The Bogle Firm, would be for a total of $308,400 and would provide for the remodeling of the building into both city office space and event space that could be leased out.

The upcoming Salisbury City Council meeting will be at 6 p.m at City Hall, located at 217 S. Main St. The other agenda items that will be discussed include:

• The council will recognize summer youth employees and summer interns.
• The council will receive an update on Sustainable Salisbury, a division of the public works department that provides recycling, compost, Adopt-A-Street and other sustainable information to residents.
• The council will consider adopting an ordinance designating the McKenzie-Grimes House located in the 200 block of West Bank Street as a local historic landmark.
• The council will receive an update on microtransit programs and consider adopting a public transportation program resolution authorizing city staff to apply through the state for pass-through federal funding.
• The council will receive an update on various capital projects throughout the city, including the status, estimated costs and any applicable grant funding for the projects.
• The council will receive an update on current and future programs involved with the Byrne Criminal Justice Incentive.
• The council will receive an update on FUSUS Software, which provides software for law enforcement departments, and consider entering into a five-year purchase agreement  with annual price escalations. The first year would cost approximately $100,000 and the total cost of the contract would be $750,000. The city would have the right to terminate the contract at any point.
