Landis approves purchase of two police vehicles

LANDIS — The Landis Police Department fleet is poised for a facelift.
The Landis Board of Aldermen approved the purchase of two new vehicles during its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday at town hall.
The first vehicle is a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, which will cost $46,771. The vehicle will be used as Police Chief Matthew Geelen’s primary vehicle since his previous vehicle was reallocated to the administration department.
The Silverado will be purchased from Modern Chevrolet in Winston-Salem. The pricing of the quote follows the guidelines of the North Carolina Sheriffs Association Vehicle Procurement Program (NCSAVPP).
The NCSAVPP is a cooperative bid program that achieves competitive pricing on police-rated, special-service and administrative vehicles, trucks and vans. According to its website, the association’s program helps to eliminate duplication of effort through the creation of one statewide bid that can be used by all 100 sheriff’s offices in North Carolina, as well as units of local governments and political subdivisions.
The second vehicle that was approved is a 2025 Ford Explorer Police Interceptor, which will cost $44,606. That vehicle will replace one that was totaled last year. It is being purchased from Parks Auto Group in Hendersonville.
After approving purchase of the two vehicles, the aldermen approved their upfitting. Upfitting involves installation of essential equipment: high-intensity lights, sirens and a prisoner cage. That equipment is being purchased through Dana Safety Supply and will cost $13,626.
The upfitting purchase was approved in June as part of the adopted budget for Fiscal Year 2025.
