The King covering The Man in Black. Nothing is better than watching the greats pay tribute to the other greats. And these two men are some of the best that country music has ever seen. George Strait is on the road right now having some fun with Chris Stapleton, and over the weekend while playing the Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Strait added a new cover to the setlist. With the release of his new album
Cowboys and Dreamers around the corner, Strait has been playing his cover of "Waymore's Blues" on the road, as it is set to appear on the record . But Strait took a break from "Waymore's Blues" to lay down an all-time classic from Johnny Cash. While this is not Strait's first time bringing the cover to the stage , it is always a treat when he chooses to bring it out of his back pocket. After "All My Exes Live In Texas," Strait and his Ace in the Hole Band fired up "Folsom Prison Blues." The King lays down a flawless cover of the 1955 hit. The song was written in 1953 and recorded in Memphis' Sun Studios two years later. The beloved song was secured as a classic in his catalog in 1968 when Cash recorded a live version of the song from Folsom Prison. Strait pulls out the low bellows in his voice to deliver the lyrics with his signature Texas twang at the end of each note, making it his own while maintaining the integrity of Cash's version. During the song's bridge, Strait lets his band's talent shine, giving each member a moment to highlight their talent on their respective instruments. While George is an unreal talent on his own, he is backed by a band that knows how to bring the heat. George Strait and "Folsom Prison Blues" are two things that get better with time. He knocked this out of the park. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ww7GMswZrI
