SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Salt Lake City Police are reminding the public about upcoming road closures and delays for the Days of ’47 events and an Olympic bid decision watch party this week.

Starting Wednesday, July 24, “anyone living, working, or visiting Salt Lake City should expect significant and potentially lengthy road closures as participants and spectators navigate the Deseret News Marathon , Days of ’47 Parade , and Celebrate 2034 Olympic party ,” a press release from SLCPD states.

The Days of ’47 Parade, which will showcase colorful floats, bands, horses, clowns, and more as part of one of the oldest parades in the country, starts Wednesday at 9 a.m. The marathon also takes place on Wednesday, starting at 5 a.m.

The Olympic Watch Party will happen at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Salt Lake City Hall’s East Steps, located at 451 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 84111. Community members will watch the International Olympic Committee’s bid decision for the 2034 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games.

Officers will reportedly be stationed around Washington Square, as well as along the marathon and parade route.

“To help ensure the safety of everyone, some segments of the racecourse and parade route require 100% closure,” SLCPD stated in the release. “Some of these select street closures could be in place for several hours. All roadway users are encouraged to follow all posted signs and directions from officers along the racecourse and parade route.”

Community members should be aware of these routes and prepare to avoid those areas or delay travel, if possible. Please use extreme caution when traveling through the area, SLCPD said.

SLCPD reminds community members to find the nearest police officer or call 801-799-3000 to report any suspicious activity. For in-progress emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
