Sandhurst Fire update: 89% contained, 207 acres

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — The Sandhurst Fire, which sparked on Ensign Peak in Salt Lake City on Saturday , was estimated to be 89% contained as of Tuesday night, according to Utah Fire Info.

The size of the wildfire was updated to 207 acres as of Tuesday, and officials said that was the final size of the fire. Utah Fire Info clarified the final size was not because of any fire growth, but because of more accurate fire mapping.

The cause was still considered to be undetermined as of Tuesday.

The Sandhurst Fire prompted mandatory and voluntary evacuations on Saturday, and officials said about 40 homes could have been impacted by the fire. However, all evacuation orders associated with the Sandhurst Fire were lifted on Sunday night .

In its latest update, Utah Fire Info said Tunnel Springs Park and Ensign Peak Trailhead reopened at 8 p.m. on Tuesday night.

“The section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail nearest the Sandhurst Fire will remain closed until further notice to ensure ease of access for firefighting resources and public safety,” Utah Fire Info said Tuesday.

City Creek Canyon Road was expected to reopen up to site 16 on the morning of July 24, but Utah Fire Info said that the road would close again starting on Thursday.

Construction on the City Creek Water Treatment Plant Upgrades Project is expected to resume on Thursday, and officials clarified that closure is not related to the closures for fighting the Sandhurst Fire.

Utah Fire Info said the update from Tuesday night would be the final post about the Sandhurst Fire.
