John Stockton reveals what he is most proud of about his career

John Stockton had a stellar 19-year career in the NBA, during which time he became a legend for the Utah Jazz . Although Stockton could never win the NBA Championship, he competed on the biggest stage multiple times during the 1990s.

Stockton’s Jazz came near to winning it all in 1997 and 1998 but lost both times to none other than Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. Regardless of never winning an NBA title, Stockton had a sensational career.

One might wonder what the 10x NBA All-Star is most proud of in his career. The Jazz legend shed light on the same in a recent interview with ‘Legends of Sports.’

“Kind of proud of everything,” Stockton said . “Proud of my teammates, my coaches, we were a small market team. We were perpetual winners; we didn’t get to win it all. We were at the doorstep a couple of times but didn’t quite get it done.”

Stockton lists more things he is proud of

Achieving success in the NBA as a small market team is more complex than one might think. The basketball Hall of Famer is surely proud of taking the Jazz to the NBA Finals, but that’s not all.

Stockton further listed ddownthings that he is proud of after his commendable 19-year career in the NBA.

“ I’m proud of the relationships,” Stockton added. “ It’s certainly the things that I miss from the playing days the most are the relationships. Those bus rides and the conversations and the freedom. … What I’m most proud of is the consistency. We just brought it every night whether it was always successful or not; we at least brought it, I thought.”

Stockton’s career at Utah

Being drafted into a small market team, Stockton could have left the Jazz for a better team at any point in his career. However, instead of running from the grind, Stockton gave his heart and soul to the team for 19 years.

After his stint in the NBA, Stockton finished his career as an 11x All-NBA player, 10x NBA All-Star, 9x Assists Champ, 2x Steals Champ, and 5x All-Defensive. He averaged 13.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 10.5 assists per game.

He was known for his phenomenal playmaking ability and finished with 15,806 assists in 1506 career games. Although Stockton retired from the league in 2003, his assists record remains untouched. For his brilliant career, John Stockton was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.
