Asheville police open new public safety office in North Asheville for easier access
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The Asheville Police Department (APD) has opened a new public safety office in North Asheville where residents can file or request police reports. It is located at Fire Station 13 on Broadway Street in the Five Points neighborhood. Residents can now go there and receive the same services offered at APD's downtown location.
Community prepares for Asheville Middle School, Montford North Star consolidation
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A big adjustment period is just over one month away for students, parents and staff in the Montford community in Asheville. Asheville Middle School will be slightly more populated soon because of Asheville City Schools' consolidationof Montford North Star Academy. This decision was made back in March for financial reasons.
SART celebrates its 50th season
Every once in a while, something productive and constructive arises from locker room talk. Take, for instance, one such conversation in 1974 that occurred in the men’s locker room at the gym of Mars Hill College (now Mars Hill University). Jim Thomas of the theater arts department and Don Anderson of the social and behavioral sciences department were chatting about ways for Madison County to celebrate the U.S. bicentennial in 1976. And the seeds for what became Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre (SART) were planted.
