$1.08 million allocated for repairs to historic Carl Sandburg Home dam
FLAT ROCK, N.C. (WLOS) — The National Park Service approves$1,081,600 for Front Lane dam repairs atCarl Sandburg Home, available at the start of the new federal fiscal year. The Carl Sandburg Home, a national historic site located in Flat Rock, N.C. and home to American Poet Carl Sandburg, is anticipating repairs after Oct. 1, 2024. Repairs will affect Front Lake dam, built in the 1850s, which failed in Aug. 2022 from combined elements including the dam's age and corrugated metal pipe decay.

A community planning body on addressing homelessness narrowly endorsed in a vote Thursday night a new proposal for the site of the former Ramada Inn. The old hotel property in East Asheville has been unused for three years, with the building and land foreclosed upon after a prior public-private partnership imploded.
