Good news: The Chicago River shows new signs of life

    2023-05-28

When it comes to planning a trip, most Chicagoans think of a park, a day of fishing, or a restaurant. It is hard for them to think of riverfront activities and the reason is obvious: there are more than enough problems.

The time when the Chicago River lost its charm and attraction

The Chicago River is said to be heavily polluted and has lost its natural beauty. Some organisms that used to attract many people to the river have vanished. The reduction in biodiversity is because of the loss of habitat and the excessive inclusion of harmful materials and chemicals.

The Clean Water Act of 1972

The truth is that the Chicago River had to suffer a lot because of industrial dumping before the Clean Water Act of 1972. This law made it possible to reduce the number of pollutants in the Chicago River.

    New signs of life

Now the good news for Chicagoans is that the Chicago River is showing certain signs of life. The footage is available online that shows a turtle relaxing along the waterway. It means the quality of water in the Chicago River is gradually improving.

According to an online report, there may soon be a time when the water standards will be high and this may give rise to different recreational activities and new aquatic animals may also be seen there.

Who knows, you will soon be able to enjoy swimming and different water sports here. Summer is definitely a good time for freediving, surf-skiing, and jet surfing.
