Sampson fire brings massive response
A Tuesday afternoon fire at a Sampson County pallet manufacturing yard presented a water challenge for firefighters and though contained, the blaze continues. The Plain View Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to Discount Pallet Services LLC at 391 Ira B. Tart Road, Dunn, soon after 4 p.m. Telecommunicators in the Sampson County 911 Center received a call reporting the large piles of disposed pallets in the yard surrounding the business were on fire.

Lajona Carr of Sampson County was found guilty by a jury on Tuesday of the first-degree murder of Jamaris Pridgen. Superior Court Judge Augustus D. Willis IV sentenced Carr to life without the possibility of parole, plus a minimum of 17 months and a maximum of 30 months to run at the expiration of the life without parole sentence.
