SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — Storms that moved into the Concho Valley on July 17 are expected to continue their flight south during the morning of July 18, potentially bringing lightning and heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS first began reporting the storms’ arrival to the Concho Valley at 8:18 a.m. July 17, when it announced that an outflow boundary coming in from north of the Big Country during the morning was likely to “provide a focus for isolated to scattered thunderstorms” during the afternoon of that day. This prediction became a reality, as the service then issued several updates about the storms as they progressed through the area throughout the remainder of the day.

The remnants of these storms still hovered over parts of the Concho Valley going into July 18, warranting another update from the NWS . In it, the service stated that a “line of showers and thunderstorms” will make their way south across a region spanning from “the Concho Valley southeast toward the northwest Hill Country.”

The NWS stated that it expects the storm line to slowly move through the area over the course of the morning. Additionally, it warned that its main concerns were “dangerous lightning along with locally heavy rainfall” that could cause “minor flooding of roadways and low-lying areas.”

As of the time of publication, the service’s seven-day forecast predicts that part of San Angelo has a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms “mainly before 10 a.m.” Otherwise, the day is predicted to be partly sunny with a high close to 96 F and northeastern winds traveling anywhere from 5 mph to 10 mph.

The stormy weather is expected to subside on July 19, instead seeing a return to the usual “sunny and hot” conditions the region has seen in previous days and producing a high near 98 F. This is predicted to possibly change going into the weekend, however, as July 20 is expected to have a 20% chance rain after 1 p.m.
