SAISD opens applications for free and reduced-price lunches

SAN ANGELO, Texas ( Concho Valley Homepage ) — San Angelo ISD has opened applications for the National School Lunch Program in anticipation of the 2024-2025 school year.

According to the district , the program is a “federally-assisted meal program that provides lunches to more than 3 million Texas children in school and residential child care institutions.” Families who apply and qualify for the program can receive free or reduced-price lunches for their students while the school year is ongoing.

Families who wish to apply have until Aug. 15 to fill out an online application that will be used to determine their eligibility for the NSLP. Paper applications can also be picked up at the Child Nutrition Services Office at 305 Baker St.

The district encourages all families to consider applying as many factors contribute to whether a family is eligible and doing so may provide their children with free or lower-priced meals. These factors include, but are not limited to, household income, whether a household is receiving benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and whether the child is enrolled in Head Start or Even Start.

More federal and state funds may also be directed to SAISD and its schools depending on how many eligible applicants there are.

“Student eligibility numbers for schools are also a factor in school qualification for money for supplies and materials needed at the campus,” SAISD said. “Last year, money determined based on eligible applications helped fund SAISD campus programs like take-home to read book packs.”

The distracted stated that lunch prices for the 2024-2025 school year are as follows:

Elementary

• Full price: $3
• Reduced price: 40 cents

Secondary

• Full price: $3.25
• Reduced price: 40 cents
