A new eatery is planning to open in Downtown San Antonio’s “artisan village” La Villita. According to MySA , a banner outside of the restaurant describes the upcoming concept as a “mythical Mexican cantina.”

Coming to 515 Villita Street , Casa Catrina will take over the former Fig Tree spot — a historic residence that dates back to the 1800s, referred to as the Gray-Guilbeau House — landing alongside establishments such as Capistrano Soap Company, Guadalajara Grill, and Smoke Texas Riverwalk.

What Now San Antonio reached out to Casa Catrina’s owner, Samuel Panchevre — the CEO of Aztec Family Group & Alamo City Investments — to inquire about the upcoming eatery, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

Nevertheless, an unofficial River Walk Facebook page briefly introduces the concept: “Casa Catrina will feature authentic, unique, and shareable Mexican dishes in a Dia De Los Muertos-themed restaurant.”

An opening date has not been announced yet, but “based on an application with San Antonio’s Historic and Design Review Commission, a riverside terrace, graphics, and signage have all been proposed for the building,” MySA shares.

    Stay tuned for updates.
