The crowd was packed for Teton Ridge's The American Rodeo at Globe Life Field. Ten rodeo athletes in rodeo events from roping and rough stock to barrel racing were battling it out for a $100,000 check, and some for a chance at a million.
Intense rodeo competition was not the only entertainment the spectators got to see. Texas Country music sensation, Aaron Watson, performed between the rounds of the rodeo.
Amarillo, Texas native is known for his Texas-style country hits including "Outta Style" and "That Look". Watson had the entire stadium singing along to his songs. Then, he brought out his emotional side talking about the mom of a famous bull rider. The big screens flashed with clips of the bull rider as Watson sang his song, "July in Cheyenne".
The heartfelt emotions didn't end there. Watson went in to talk about his family. Married for more than two decades, Watson and his wife, Kimberly have three children together - Jake, Jack and Jolee. Many don't know Watson and his wife tragically lost another daughter they had, Julia, the day she was born. Turning their tragedy into a song, Watson wrote "Bluebonnets" in honor of her.
"We're only here for a little while, so make the most of every mile," is a sample of this heart-wrenching song that compares life to the Texas state flower, who like the lyrics say, are only here for a little while.
After Watson discussed his Julia, he introduced the young man playing the guitar next to him. It was none other than his 18-year-old son, Jake Watson. The young gun has been traveling alongside Dad in the band for two years. There is no denying musical talent is in his blood, as he shredded the guitar in front of the rodeo fans, grinning ear to ear.
It's so refreshing to see a family that is there for each other through hard work and even works alongside each other. Watson, along with his son Jake, is kicking off his The Armadillo Dance Hall Tour on March 15.
