A pair of veterans will represent the Marshall track & field program at the 2024 Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Division 3 state meet. A pair of seniors that have been there before, distance runner Jaxon Hornby and jumper Brady Stensven, punched their ticket at WIAA regionals, hosted at Horicon High School on Thursday, May 23.

Stensven added to his laundry list of achievements in the triple jump this spring by winning the sectional outright with a leap of 42-10. Prior to this, he placed third at the Capitol Conference meet and also won his WIAA regional grouping.

This makes it back-to-back trips to state for Stensven in the triple jump after qualifying with a third place finish in sectionals in 2023. He'd go on to place 13th at the state meet.

Hornby earned his spot at state in the 1,600 meter run, where he placed third with a time of 4:38.09. This came on the heels of finishing second in the event at WIAA regionals, where he also won the 3,200 meter run. Hornby also won the Captiol Conference's edition of the 1,600 meter run prior to the state tournament.

Hornby has never qualified individually for the 1,600 meter run, coming agonizingly close in the sectional round with a fifth place finish in 2022 and seventh in 2023. His state experience comes from another running sport, cross country. He participated in the state meet as both a junior and senior.

Stensven and Hornby will head off to Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex in La Crosse for the 2024 WIAA state track & field championships. The event kicks off on Friday, May 31 and ends Saturday, June 1.
