Chris Paul was waived by the Warriors earlier today but has found a new home in the NBA quickly. Paul, who will turn 40 next season, will join the young San Antonio Spurs on a one-year, $11+ million contract to play for Gregg Popovich, with Victor Wembanyama getting the point guard he needs. Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to break the news .

"Free agent guard Chris Paul has agreed on a one-year, $11 million-plus deal with the San Antonio Spurs, sources tell ESPN."

Chris Paul averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.8 assists last season with the Warriors, struggling with injury and not having a defined role on the roster.

Starting him alongside Stephen Curry created a very poor defensive backcourt and he was not as helpful off the bench due to his lack of scoring, which prompted the Warriors to move Klay to the bench alongside Paul to create some offense off the bench.

A contender won't have much use for a player like Paul at this point in his career, which explains why the Spurs are the ones to get him. He gets to be a mentor to Victor Wembanyama , the reigning Rookie of the Year and league leader in blocks.

One of the biggest complaints about the Spurs all season was their lack of a point guard with court vision or playmaking ability on the roster. Paul fixes that and gives Wembanyama the cerebral point guard he needs to make his post-play even more of a factor, primarily opening up lobs which Paul will see develop on the court before anyone else.

The Warriors are also expected to lose Klay Thompson in free agency after a rough season together came to an end with Klay being villainized for their failures last season. The franchise also made a run at Paul George but the Clippers refused to trade him, leading to a concerning situation in Golden State where they're losing their talent for nothing.
