Bimbo Bakeries USA announced it is laying off 138 employees in San Antonio.

This decision follows the closures and mass layoffs at several sister brands under its parent company, Grupo Bimbo, including two of its New York bakery plants — Entenmann's and Freihofer's, laying off all 131 workers.

The company announced earlier this year that it planned to restructure its North American businesses in connection with its financial report in the fourth quarter of 2023.

According to Food Business News , the company saw a steep decline in operating income from $1.95 billion in 2022 to $660 million in 2023. Net sales also decreased by about 6% in 2022.

What brands does Grupo Bimbo own?

The parent company owns brands covering a wide range of baked goods, including bread, rolls, cakes, cookies, muffins, bagels, English muffins, tortillas and snack cakes. This includes:

    • Arnold
    • Ball Park
    • Boboli
    • Brownberry
