Brush Fire at Cuesta Grade 7.05.2024
A grass fire erupted on Wednesday afternoon along highway 101 near the Cuesta grade. The fire was reported at around 3:15 pm, and resulted in the closure of one of the highway’s northbound lanes. The fire was eventually contained after it burned just under four acres. All lanes were eventually reopened at 6 pm.

We’re in the full swing of summer now, and most representative species are on the bite. From Big Sur up to Franklin Point, local anglers and visitors are pursuing rockfish, lingcod, halibut, sole and the occasional white sea bass. Much of this bounty can be credited to abundant bait in the bay. Squid spawns have started back up again in spots, mostly near Monterey. Big anchovy schools can be found in the deeper, more central areas of the bay. The year started out with a good showing of sardines, but we’ve received few reports of the speedy little baitfish recently.

City of Soledad to make Improvements on Front Street
The City of Soledad is making significant progress in meeting its goals of providing excellent street conditions throughout the city. In addition to the Crack Seal maintenance project starting this month of July, Front Street will also have work done to it. As part of this project, the City will address the pavement conditions along Front Street (between Nestles Road and Moranda Road), replacing the problematic concrete sidewalks, curb and gutter, and drainage issues. Traffic Safety and site distance will also be incorporated into this project to ensure a safe corridor for all roadway users. Additionally, this project will include art, landscape refresh, lighting, and sidewalk amenities.
