    Valley cities begin mosquito control operations

    RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Rio Grande Valley cities are currently spraying for mosquitos to control their population due to the recent rains.

    San Benito

    The city of San Benito announced it will be spraying for mosquitos in the early morning and late night when mosquitos are most active.

    The city’s news release said spraying will begin with Zone 1 and continue daily through each respective zone.

    The city will continue to actively spray mosquitos on public streets until the mosquito population decreases.

    Larvicide is being used in areas with standing water, according to the city.

    Brownsville

    The Brownsville Department of Health, Wellness and Animal Services will be conducting mosquito treatment in the city.

    Residents in the following zones are advised to remain indoors during the following dates and times.

    • Tuesday, July 30
    • Zones: 1-12
    • 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
    • Wednesday, July 31
    • Zones: 13-24
    • 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.
    • Thursday, August 1
    • Zones: 25-35
    • 6:30 – 9:30 p.m.

    The schedule may vary due to high wind speeds or inclement weather.

    Weslaco

    According to the city, they have currently been spraying and will continue every night until the mosquito population decreases.

    McAllen

    The City of McAllen said it is evaluating wind conditions before it begins spraying for mosquitos.

    “Right now it is too windy but the forecast indicates that the winds should die down by the end of the week,” said Xochitl More, spokeswoman for the City of McAllen.

    If the winds die down, the McAllen Environmental Health & Code Enforcement Department will commence with spraying.
