Firefighters made quick work of a brush fire that scorched just over 5 acres near the Glen Helen Amphitheater and the 215 Freeway in Devore this week.

The vegetation fire was reported at about 3 p.m. on Monday in the 2500 block of Glen Helen Parkway, east of the Cajon Wash and south of the 215 Freeway, according to Cal Fire.

At about 4 p.m., fire incident command released all fixed-wing aircraft and canceled incoming fire engines as hand crews worked the fire, authorities said.

At 4:43 p.m., the fire’s forward rate was stopped at 5.25 acres, fire authorities said.

Several commuters contacted the Daily Press about the fire, including Roberto Zamora of Victorville, who was traveling home on I-215 when he saw dark smoke coming from the fire.

“It was a small fire, but it generated a lot of smoke,” said Zamora, 33, who works in Colton. “I’ve seen a lot of small fires over the last month that were quickly handled.”

Jenna Reynolds of Hesperia was also on I-215 when she noticed smoke and was afraid the fire was going to close the freeway.

No structures were affected by the fire, which is under investigation.
