Resident Brewing Replacing Third Avenue Alehouse

After serving downtown’s Gaslamp Quarter since 2016, Resident Brewing is getting ready to expand south into Chula Vista , located at 319 3rd Ave.

The company recently announced that it has signed a lease on a 1,785-square-foot property, taking over Third Avenue Alehouse to install its first-ever satellite tasting room, according to San Diego Beer News . There is no official opening date for the new Resident Brewing tasting room in Chula Vista, but the owners are currently renovating the space to make it feel more like the Resident’s Brewing brand, with on-site food options available for customers.

This isn’t the first time Resident Brewing has tried to expand within San Diego. In 2020, owners James Langley and his brother-in-law, award-winning homebrewer Robert Masterson , were close to acquiring a large brewery and tasting room in Vista, once the home of Iron Fist Brewing, but the deal fell through. As a result, Pure Project Brewing took over the facility, and Resident Brewing continued its search for a larger production facility.

“Since day one, Resident has been committed to maintaining the tireless dedication to quality that began in the Brewmaster’s backyard,” according to the company’s website. “In the years since the brewery doors opened, Resident has developed a reputation for brewing high-quality beers of all styles while developing a reputation for stouts and hoppy beers in particular. Small but growing, the Resident team plans to expand the brewery’s fermentation capacity, tasting room locations, and geographic footprint in the coming years.”
