Michi Michi Opening Brick-and-Mortar in Bankers Hill

    2024-03-06

Michi Michi , a San Diego-based baking collective, is getting ready to open a brick-and-mortar store at 2800 Fifth Avenue in Bakers Hill .

The upcoming baking collective will be run by pastry chef Arely Chavez , a veteran of restaurants in Mexico City, Tijuana, and San Diego, first reported by Eater San Diego . Chavez tells What Now San Diego via email that the bakery is installing its final kitchen equipment and is planning a grand opening before Summer 2024 . Customers can expect a variety of desserts and farm produce from local growers like JR Organics, Pixca Farm, and Chino Farms.

In addition to pastries and desserts, the eatery will offer freshly brewed drip coffee made with rotating beans from local coffee roasters to highlight the San Diego coffee scene. Michi Michi will also have a variety of loose-leaf teas, freshly squeezed juices, and other non-caffeinated beverages like hot chocolate and lemonades. Guests will be encouraged to enjoy the space, infused with warmth and freshness, thanks to the two spacious pop-up windows welcoming sunshine and a gentle breeze. Customers can sit at community benches outside, creating a cozy, communal vibe, or enjoy a stroll at Balboa Park, just a block away.

“Michi Michi will be more than a place to indulge in local baked goods; it’s meant to be a hub for connection, collaboration, and celebration of local flavors,” Chavez tells What Now San Diego in an email. “We believe in the power of community, and this baking collective will be open to both talented bakers who can call this place home and the customers who appreciate the richness of our local culinary scene. I’ve been working on recipe development and research for the past three months, and we are beyond excited to start making goodies for everyone.”
