Bonehead Burger Co. Opening Two Brick-and-Mortars

    2024-05-03

After serving the community in the Barrio Food Hub, Bonehead Burger Co. is expanding throughout San Diego with new locations in Imperial Beach and Old Town .

The company, owned and operated by brothers Kit Wingate and Blake Bone , who launched the concept in 2022, will start by opening a new location in Imperial Beach at 150 Palm Avenue , sharing a kitchen with its neighbor, Seaside Candy and Ice Cream, according to Eater San Diego . After this, Bonehead Burger Co. will open a more prominent spot inside the Old Town Urban Market , replacing Tuetano Taqueria and Mar Rustico. The site will have indoor and outdoor seating and alcoholic options.

Both locations are expected to open in Summer 2024 and will surely be a hit in both upcoming neighborhoods. While the brothers have operated the company for less than two years, the duo has made quite a splash in the community since they started slinging burgers in their backyard. When Bonehead first started, the company served the VFW in Imperial Beach before eventually branching out to a food truck and pop-ups. The same year the company was founded, the brothers won the “Best Burger Award” at the San Diego Reader’s Burger and Beer Festival.

When the new locations open later this year, customers can expect the restaurant’s namesake burger made with cheddar cheese, crispy onion straws, maple bourbon bacon, and scallions, topped with their delicious Bonehead sauce. Those who enjoy massive amounts of food will be happy to know they will serve a six-patty smash burger called the “Big” Schulte. For sides, the restaurant will serve loaded fries and tater tots. Eventually, Bonehead will add more items to the menu, including hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, and breakfast options.
