The Latino Book & Family Festival begins at MiraCosta College’s Oceanside campus with author Victor Villaseñor, filmmaker Luis Valdez and Beatriz Villareal, director of the Mano a Mano Foundation. More than 100 exhibitors are scheduled for the free event, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. In addition, there’s a pre-festival screening of the 1987 biopic La Bamba, directed by Valdez, at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The event, with Greek food, pastries, beer and wine, live music and folk dancers and a kids’ fun zone, opens Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. Admission is $4. Park for free at the San Diego Unified School District lot on Campus Avenue and take the shuttle to the fest.
