Fire crews have stopped the progress of a 75-acre brush fire that broke out at a Marine Corps Air Station property in Miramar.

The fire, initially reported at 15 acres, broke out around 2:25 p.m. Saturday and continued to grow. Progress was stopped around 5:23 p.m. Saturday, according to the San Diego Fire Department.

Additional air support was sent to assist the Miramar Fire Department, including two tankers and two hand crews, Cal Fire told City News Service.

The SDFD also sent five brush engines and a helicopter to assist.

Fire officials said there was no threat to the city, but thick smoke could be seen in the distance from nearby Interstate 15.

The cause of the fire was unclear.
