Ansofaxine hydrochloride, an oral antidepressant, has shown promise in inhibiting the growth of colon cancer cells in both cell cultures and mice. When combined strategically with anti-tumour drugs, ansofaxine hydrochloride bolsters the immune system and triggers programmed cell death in cancer cells.

The national supply of the cancer drug cisplatin now exceeds demand, FDA Commissioner Robert Cailiff, MD, said June 28. The drug, which treats multiple cancers, had been in shortage since February 2023. The shortage occurred after the FDA halted imports from Intas Pharmaceuticals' manufacturing plant in India in late 2022 due to quality issues. In May 2023, 70% of cancer centers lacked sufficient cisplatin supply, according to a report from the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

In America, lung cancer (mainly SCLC and NSCLC) is the second most common cancer among men and women. It is estimated that this year (2024) there will be 234,580 new cases and over 100,000 deaths associated with lung cancer. While men are at a higher risk, the average age of those diagnosed is 70 with limited cases in individuals younger than 45 years old. Lung cancer symptoms include a cough that continues for over 3-weeks, coughing up blood, trouble breathing, tightness in the chest, and persistent tiredness, among others. Unfortunately, there is no cure for breast cancer and the best options available for treatment include chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. While the progression or stage of the cancer helps the physician determine the best treatment option, longevity and quality of life is still a point of concern. Scientists are currently working to develop new therapies to improve patient outcomes.

BOSTON - There currently is no cure for Parkinson's disease, but scientists may have discovered a potential path to slow or stop the disease.Parkinson's disease is a brain disorder that can cause movement problems such as tremors, poor balance, and walking difficulties, and it can also impair cognitive function.  There is no cure and treatments aim to simply reduce symptoms. But a new study in mice by researchers at Johns Hopkins offers new hope.  They found that the interaction of two proteins is key to the buildup of protein clumps in the brain that damage healthy brain cells in Parkinson's. They also suggest that disrupting these proteins with a drug already approved by the FDA to treat cancer could potentially slow or stop the brain damage associated with Parkinson's.  The next step would be to conduct clinical trials in humans, but that will take time.
