SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The extreme heat can be very dangerous, especially for hikers who like to enjoy all the trails San Diego County has to offer.

With an Excessive Heat Warning in effect for the region’s desert areas, it’s imperative that those dealing with high temperatures are prepared.

One way to stay safe is to avoid avoid hiking or exercising in the middle of the day, especially in the deserts.

Bottom-line, if you plan on going for a hike during this heat wave it’s suggested that you tell someone where you are going and be sure to have plenty of water on hand.

During these extreme conditions, the San Diego County Health Department is also making some specific recommendations, as seen below:

    — Stay hydrated

    — Find cool zones

    — Use sunscreen

    — Avoid using high-powered appliances

    — Avoid drinking alcohol

This weekend, daily maximum high records and even all-time heat records for many areas may be broken. Be prepared.
