A 28-year-old woman has been arrested nearly four years after she allegedly killed her ex-boyfriend in California , fatally shooting him before going on the lam. Sheila Brigitte Camarena was taken into custody on Tuesday evening and charged with one count of first-degree murder in the slaying of 33-year-old Mychael Blake Farve, authorities announced.

According to a news release from the San Diego Police Department, on Sept. 18, 2020, at about 3:25 a.m., the police communications center received a 911 call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon in the 4400 block of Euclid Avenue. Police and emergency medical personnel with San Diego Fire-Rescue were immediately dispatched to the location.

Upon arriving, first responders said they found a 33-year-old Black male — later identified as Farve — suffering from “trauma to his upper body” that appeared to have been caused by a gunshot wound. Medics transported Farve to a hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at about 4:15 a.m., police said.

The investigation into the fatal shooting was led by detectives with the department’s Homicide Unit, which named Camarena as a “person of interest” in October 2020, the Times of San Diego reported .

“During the course of their investigation, Detectives learned Farve had previously been in a relationship with a 25-year-old Hispanic female, Sheila Camarena,” the release states. “On the day of this incident, a confrontation occurred between Camarena and Farve and he was fatally shot. On February 25, 2021, a felony warrant was issued for her arrest for one count of murder. A Crime Stoppers flier was distributed requesting the public’s assistance in locating her.”

However, Camarena managed to avoid law enforcement for more than three years before authorities were able to catch up with her.

Police said that Camarena was taken into custody by detectives at the United States Port of Entry at 720 West San Ysidro Boulevard at 6:18 p.m. on Tuesday. The port of entry is about 15 miles south of the location where Farve was killed. Camarena was subsequently booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee, California, where she is currently being held without bond, online records show.

A GoFundMe set up for Farve’s family raised $10,000 for the benefit of the young daughter who survived him.

“Mychael Blake Farve was taken from us too soon, he is leaving behind his family, friends, and his beloved daughter,” the fundraising page reads. “We are heartbroken over this devastating news, this feels like a dream. He was loved by everyone.”

Authorities emphasized that the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing and are urging anyone with information relevant to the case to call the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
