SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego is headed into another week of Excessive Heat Warnings as the summer heatwave intensifies.

The heat dome that powered record-breaking heat for some inland areas of San Diego County is now shifting southward and will be hanging out over Southern California for the first half of the week.

This means warmer temperatures — 10 to 15 degrees above normal — Monday through Thursday and has prompted another round of Excessive Heat Warnings for inland valleys, mountains and deserts.

Motorcyclist dies from heat exposure in Death Valley amid record-breaking temperatures

Valley areas like Ramona, El Cajon and Escondido will get the alert Tuesday through Thursday with day time highs expected to be anywhere from the upper 90s to low 100s.

Mountain communities like Julian and Pine Valley already have the heat alert in effect Monday through Thursday with temperatures up to 108 degrees.

Deserts really haven’t seen much relief and will continue to reach 115 to 120 degrees each day this week.

Beaches have a kind marine layer to thank for keeping the coast cooler with evening and morning low clouds. Beaches will hang in the upper 70s to low 80s for the next few days.

High pressure will start to weaken as we approach the weekend and could open the door for some monsoonal moisture and isolated showers in the mountains.
