A 43-year-old man was hospitalized Tuesday evening in the Morena neighborhood of San Diego after a reported stabbing attack.

Police were called at 5:38 p.m. to 4891 Pacific Highway where they learned the victim was confronted by an unknown suspect and a verbal argument ensued, according to the San Diego Police Department.

According to police, the suspect grabbed the victim around the neck and stabbed him once in the back. The suspect then fled when passersby approached to assist the victim, SDPD Officer David O’Brien said.

The suspect was described as a heavyset man, approximately 6-feet-2 inches tall, with long dread-lock style braids and a scruffy beard. He was wearing a white T-shirt, dark pants and dark shoes.

O’Brien said the victim was taken to a hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The department’s Western Division was handling the investigation and anyone with information related to it was asked to call 619-692-4800 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
