Summer Camp Isn’t Just For Kids!

Arts and crafts, fun in the garden …

Why should kids have all the fun? Summer camp is for adults, too! The Parks and Recreation Department’s AgeWell Services program will present its Summer Camp program over three days next week, July 16-18, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Adults ages 60 and better are welcome to participate in the inaugural day camp program, which will include days devoted to art, play, and gardening.

Participants will get to visit a museum, create their art, enjoy outdoor activities, picnic, play games, garden, create plant crafts, and much more at various sites around the city.

AgeWell Services staff created the program as it continues to expand its offerings to ensure that older adults in the city have access to programs, services, and activities that support their wellness.

Throughout the year, AgeWell Services operates several senior centers, lounges, and programs that are available for free or low-cost and provide space for older adults to make connections and be a part of the community.

“For years, AgeWell Services has been a place for those 60 and better to engage in the community, learn new skills, and have their wellness needs met while having a really good time,” said Kristi Fenick, Parks and Recreation District Manager for AgeWell Services. “We are proud to bring this new addition to our lineup, Summer Camp, that will provide even more spaces for our participants to feel connected this summer.”

A DAY OF ART

Tuesday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Participants will meet at the Balboa Park Senior Lounge

On the first day of camp, participants will take a stroll through the Museum of Modern Art, have lunch, and then have the opportunity to create art of their own during a guided sip and paint.

A DAY OF PLAY

Wednesday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Participants will meet at Morley Field.

Day two will take participants to Morley Field where they’ll be able to take a class or enjoy a walk, followed by a picnic and enjoy picnic games.

A DAY IN THE GARDEN

Thursday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Participants will meet at Park de la Cruz.

The final day will close out camp in the Park de la Cruz garden, creating plant crafts, harvesting produce, and creating delicious and healthy snacks.

Registration is open and can be done in person at Park de la Cruz, 3901 Landis St., or online at sdrecconnect.com using code 115233. The total cost for the three-day program is $45 with some partial scholarships available. Those who can’t make all three days can also register for individual days; pricing varies. Light lunch will be provided daily. Please allow time for transit and parking.
