San Diego locals are invited to celebrate Pride 2024 with the City of San Diego Public Library.

The library has a week full of Pride-themed storytimes and crafts planned across its 36 branches, and at the Pride Festival at Balboa Park.

The library will also be offering a limited-edition library card that reflects the pride theme this year: “Making History Now.” This is the fifth year in a row the library will offer a limited-edition Pride library card. This year’s winning design was created by Jenn David Connolly, celebrating the 50th anniversary of San Diego pride.

Starting Saturday patrons can pick up the Pride library card for free at any library locations, while supplies last. It will also be available at the SDPL Lit Cafe at the San Diego Pride Festival.

Other libraries and local educators will join with SDPL workers as Community Grand Marshals of this year’s parade. San Diego Pride recognized the area’s LGBTQIA+ and Allied Educators and Library Workers for their support of the LGBTQIA+ community.

“The San Diego Public Library is a place where anyone can come and see their stories reflected in the books and programming,” said Library Director Misty Jones. “We’re honored to be recognized along with fellow librarians and educators as an inclusive space that celebrates the diversity of San Diego’s LGBTQIA+ community.”

SDPL will host a family-friendly Pride-themed storytime on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oak Park Library. The program will celebrate diversity and individuality through age-appropriate stories and songs. Storytimes, activities and workshops will be hosted at the annual Lit Cafe at the Pride Festival at Balboa Park, and a commemorative library Pride fan is also available at the Lit Cafe while supplies last. Visit the SDPL LGBTQIA+ page for more information on the library’s Pride books, celebrations, recommendations and community resources.
