A 60-year-old woman suffered severe injuries Sunday morning when she was struck by a vehicle while riding a mountain bike in Rancho Peñasquitos.

The crash took place in the 13100 block of Rancho Peñasquitos Blvd. at around 8:40 a.m.

“An unknown driver, driving a silver or charcoal gray mid-sized SUV traveling the same direction, veered to the right and struck the bicyclist before fleeing the scene. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where she was rushed to surgery,” the San Diego Police Department said.

According to Onscene.Media, the vehicle had been driving erratically before it struck her and then drove off, leaving her bleeding from the head in the street.

The victim sustained life-threatening injuries, including significant brain bleeding and a fractured spine, police said.
