SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Think you have got what it takes to play for San Diego FC’s Right to Dream Academy? Here’s your shot.

San Diego FC is hosting two free open tryouts for boys, born between 2010-2014, next month both in the San Diego area and Mexico, the new Major League Soccer club said in a news release Monday.

On Thursday, Aug. 8, an open tryout will take place at the Surf Sports Park located at 14550 El Camino Real in Del Mar. Then on Monday, Aug. 12, a second tryout will be held at Complejo Romero Manzo located at Alejandro Humboldt, Campos Deportivos, 22430 in Tijuana.

Joaquin Escoto, the executive vice-president of SDFC’s Right to Dream Academy, called the tryouts “a significant step in our mission to connect with the community, discover and develop the best young talent in North America, providing opportunities for young players to shine.”

One of the oldest male gorillas in the world dies at 52 at San Diego Zoo Safari Park

“We look forward to welcoming the next generation of footballers and offer them the resources and support to achieve their dreams on and off the field,” Escoto said.

Those coming to the tryouts must be prepared with their own soccer cleats, shorts, gloves, shin pads or any other equipment related to their position, according to the team. Bibs will be provided to players during the games.

The San Diego FC Right to Dream Academy offers free schooling, residency and a sports performance center for the first team and academy teams to utilize. The campus features dining facilities, three natural turf fields and two synthetic turf fields.

“Upon completion of the project in 2025, San Diego FC will become the first Major League Soccer club to offer a privately operated school, starting with middle school through high school, combined with a residential football academy,” SDFC said. “In Fall of 2026, San Diego FC’s Right to Dream Academy will welcome girls and become the first fully funded professional player development pathway for female footballers in North America.”
