Times of San Diego is proud to welcome three summer interns from journalism schools in Arizona and San Diego.

The three are Shi Bradley and Keller Brown from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communications at Arizona State University and Hannah Ramirez from San Diego State University.

They are the first interns to join the staff since the coronavirus pandemic, and funding for their internships comes through Times of San Diego’s new partnership with NEWSWELL, a nonprofit affiliate of ASU. The three started last week and have already written numerous articles.

Bradley will be a senior in the fall, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism with a minor in business. She has had previous internships at the The Arizona Republic newspaper and Phoenix Magazine, and will start one at PBS News Hour in the fall.

“Working at Times of San Diego has challenged me more than any other previous internship experience,” said Bradley. “I’ve been here just a short week and I’ve already gotten the opportunity to cover a diverse range of topics and handle a number of responsibilities.”

Brown, a native of Oregon, is currently a graduate student working towards a master’s degree in sports journalism. His previous experience includes stints at KJZZ Radio and AZPreps365, both in Phoenix.

“I am looking forward to working at the Times of San Diego this summer,” said Brown. “I have already learned and reported on a variety of different topics, further expanding my skills in different subjects.”

Ramirez will be a senior in the Journalism and Media Studies department at SDSU. She earlier received an associate degree in journalism from Southwestern College. Her experience includes internships at Voice of San Diego and the San Diego Union-Tribune, and she is currently opinion editor of The Daily Aztec at SDSU.

“In the short time I’ve been reporting for Times of San Diego I have already been challenged as a journalist and feel more prepared to enter the workforce,” said Ramirez. “There is also no greater privilege than to do my dream job in the city I love and grew up in.”
