Profar Singles, Suarez Strikes Out Two in MLB All-Star Game

The American League defeated the National League 5-3 in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, where five Padres were selected to represent San Diego in Arlington, Texas.

Jurickson Profar, Jackson Merrill, Robert Suarez, Luis Arraez, and Fernando Tatis Jr. were all selected to represent San Diego. Profar, Merrill and Suarez all saw time in the game.

Profar started the game in left field, and he hit a lead-off single to start the top of the third inning. Profar later scored on a 3-run home run by the Los Angeles Dodgers Shohei Ohtani.

Profar, a first-time All Star, was a former number one prospect for the Texas Rangers, who hosted the All-Star game this year.

Suarez, the primary closer for the Padres, entered the game in the sixth inning and struck out the only two batters he faced, punching out Jordan Westburg of the Baltimore Orioles and Riley Greene of the Detroit Tigers.

Merrill entered the game in the seventh inning. Merrill had a two-out single in the top of the ninth to extend the inning for the National League. The next batter struck out to end the game.

Arraez and Tatis did not enter the game for the National League. Tatis is still recovering from a right leg injury, which placed him on the injured list on June 24.

Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox won the All-Star game MVP, with a 2-run home run to put the American League in front 5-3 in the fifth inning, which ended up being the final score.

The Padres will open up the second half of the MLB season with a three-game series in Cleveland against the Guardians.
