San Diego artist and mother Helena Faitelson said she fell in love with painting as a child. Once just a hobby — the mother said she decided to make a career out of it just five years ago. Since then, her career has soared — having participated in the annual ArtWalk Liberty Station for the last five years.

“Each time I present the best of my collection,” Faitelson said. “The goal of my art is to bring happiness to people and this is what I want the people who visit my booth to take with them.”

Faitelson said her most meaningful work was a public project called “Sing for Hope” for the city of Beverly Hills.

During the project I painted the piano that was first exposed for the public and then donated to one of the schools in the city,” Faitelson said. “It was a very challenging and interesting project. I was one of the 16 artists selected to participate and I enjoyed every minute of working on this project.”

Inspired by her five children and the nature that surrounds her, Faitelson said she plans to launch a series of art party classes to inspire other artists.

“I use my art as therapy and fun activity,” Faitelson said. “I can see how much joy my art brings to my students and it makes me really happy.”

ArtWalk, which will be held from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4, will feature 175 artists coming from across several states and Mexico to show and sell their artwork, including paintings, photography, glass and ceramics, jewelry, and sculpture. For families, there will also be a KidsWalk hands-on art experience within the event, with a variety of kids activities.

“ArtWalk Liberty Station brings fine art outside, under San Diego’s sunny skies to create the opportunity for viewing art under natural light in a gorgeous setting surrounding a rose garden,” explains Curt Brooker, director of ArtWalk San Diego. “Attendees can purchase artwork directly from the fine artists. It’s a memorable experience to meet the artists and learn what inspires them to create!”
