Xander Schauffele, who attended San Diego State University, has won the 2024 British Open, shooting nine under par for the tournament and winning by two strokes.

This is the second major championship win for Schauffele, with both triumphs coming this year. He won the PGA Championship in May, winning by only one stroke.

Schauffele entered the tournament in Scotland ranked as the number three golfer in the world, behind Rory Mcllroy and Scottie Scheffler.

Schauffele started his final round trailing Billy Horschel by just one stroke. The number three ranked golfer saved his best performance for last, shooting six under par. He out-shot every other golfer on Sunday by two strokes.

Schauffele started his collegiate golf career at California State University Long Beach, where he would play only one year before transferring to San Diego State University. He graduated from San Diego State in 2015.

During his three seasons as an Aztec, Schauffele set a school record for the lowest scoring round in a tournament, shooting 17 under par. He was also recognized as a third team all-American, while also receiving the Mountain West all-Academic award two different times.

Schauffele has won two of the four major championships in 2024. Other than winning the British Open and the PGA Championship, he finished tied for seventh at the US Open, and eighth at the Masters Tournament.
