Influx of monsoonal moistures will bring warm, humid conditions to San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Warm air is settling in over the west and bringing not only above average summer temperatures, but also an easterly flow of monsoonal moisture.

A very shallow marine layer was seen out at the coast early this morning which allowed for sunshine and clear skies earlier in the day.

Muggy conditions are expected as moisture is being transported into the area from the southeast thanks to a ridge of high pressure over Nevada.

This means chances of isolated thunderstorms in the mountains and deserts, but main focus for development will be Big Bear to Lucerne Valley where there is less of a sea breeze influence.

With heat advisories in place for mountains and inland valleys, the increased humidity has tampered a bit with rapid daytime heating so temperatures have trended downward.

Beaches will top out in the low 80s Wednesday afternoon, low 90s for inland valleys and mountains with excessive heat in the deserts (near 115 degrees).

Drier weather is expected for the second half of the work week with a cooling trend and increased cloud cover favored for the weekend.
