Long-awaited ‘The Rings of Power’ season 2 trailer dropped at Comic-Con

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Anticipation is mounting for the second installment of Amazon Prime Video’s hit series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” before its release next month and fans got a sneak peek at what’s to come on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con.
In front of a packed Hall H panel, the cast and creative team behind the epic, which chronicles events prior to J.R.R. Toliken’s “The Lord of the Rings” novels, unveiled the long-awaited trailer, teasing what is next for Middle-earth with Sauron’s reemergence at the end of season one.
The trailer gave glimpses of a number of new creatures set to enter the show’s world, on top of highlights showing the forging of the titular Rings of Power. The crowd also got glimpses at several major battle scenes that were described as “pivotal” to season two’s storyline.
As co-showrunner J.D. Payne explained during the panel, Sauron himself will serve as a key point of view character in the upcoming second season, picking up with him beginning to lay the ground work for his eventual rise to power.
“This season, we kind of went kind of with Sauron on his journey, whereas in season one, he had moments that were private, away from the camera. Now the camera stays with him,” Payne said. “Now, we’re inside his mind and we watch him as he manipulates and maneuvers his way through Middle-earth. It’s very exciting.”

Each of the over a dozen cast members who were in attendance at the panel also gave fans hints at what is next for their characters in the upcoming season as the stakes rise to astronomical levels and darkness lurks on the horizon.
“As Gandalf says to Pippin, ‘The board is set and the pieces are moving,'” Payne said. “The enemy has the move and he is about to open up his full plan … We’re going to watch season two as he really sort of sets everyone against each other.”
The second season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is set to debut on Prime Video on Aug. 29. The full trailer can be viewed on Prime Video’s YouTube.
