VIZ Media showcased that an anime adaptation of Rooster Fighter is officially in production, which was announced at San Diego Comic-Con this week.

The minds of manga/anime creators are endless, from the weirdest names and strangest concepts to the ridiculous obsession of male harems. The best blend of peculiarity, humour, heart and action has come from the widely popular manga series Rooster Fighter. VIZ Media announced at its San Diego Comic-Con 2024 industry panel this week that an anime adaption of the manga by Shu Sakuratani is officially in production. No release date has been set yet.

According to the VIZ blog , the series will air on Adult Swim when it premieres and “further streaming platforms will be announced across all territories soon.” The story of this series follows Keiji, an ordinary rooster with the heart to fight for what is right. As humanity’s greatest defender, he takes on opponents (that look like they came out of a Souls game) as large as ten stories tall! When all hope is lost, Keiji does not.

The teaser video shows Keiji taking on a giant humanoid head with huge hands, similar to the Colossal Fingercreepers in Elden Ring , just with a head on top. A cute celebratory illustration from Sakuratani was also released on their X account. The official X account for the anime has also dropped an intense visual poster.

Sakuratani expressed his excitement for this adaptation, noting how it has always been his goal to get a series greenlit, “ Rooster Fighter is finally being made into an anime! Ever since becoming a manga artist, my biggest goal was to have my work adapted into an anime. So, I can’t tell you how happy I am to see my dream come true!”

He thanked VIZ and the readers’ continued support and reassured them that the cast and production staff would be amazing. “I believe Rooster Fighter is very blessed. We have the best director, the best writer, the best production staff, and the best voice actors all working together to create the best anime,” Sakuratani continued to explain in the blog. Daisuke Suzuki will direct the series at animation studio Sanzigen. Hiroshi Seko will also provide the series composition.

The manga began serialization in December 2020 on Hero Inc.’s manga website, with seven volumes released in Japan to date, and publication still ongoing. This is going to be an exciting anime series when it drops. Like many great mashups of comedy and action in Mashle: Magic and Muscles or One-Punch Man , Rooster Fighter will join those great ones soon. Stay tuned for updates on this mother-clucking, chicken breast-filled series!
