Padres all-in on World Series push, deal top prospects for All-Star pitcher

In an effort to win the first World Series in franchise history, the San Diego Padres have traded away multiple top prospects to bolster its pitching rotation.

According to a report from Jeff Passan of ESPN , the Padres have acquired left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott and right-handed pitcher Bryan Hoeing from the Miami Marlins.

Across his career, Scott boasts a 29-23 win-loss record with a 3.65 ERA, 452 strikeouts, and 50 saves. This season, he has one of the lowest ERAs in Major League Baseball at 1.18 across 45.6 innings.

While not as established as Scott, Hoenig is having a great season. This season, he has a 2.70 ERA with a 20.2% strikeout rate against a 7.3% walk rate. On top of this, he has only been in MLB for two years, meaning he can be a long-term piece in the Padres' organization.

In exchange for Scott and Hoeing, the Padres are sending the Marlins three of their top five prospects : left-handed pitcher Robby Snelling, right-handed pitcher Adam Mazur, and versatile infielder Graham Pauley. Miami will also receive one additional prospect: infielder Jay Beshears.

This trade perfectly represents two organizations in opposite places. One that's ready to rebuild and one looking to make a move for the most prestigious title in baseball. And if the Padres can pull it off, they'll finally have the first World Series in the history of the organization.
