Crews Fight Small Vegetation Fire in Poway Area
Firefighters were working a vegetation fire that broke out on a rural Poway road Sunday afternoon. The fire was reported at around 12:40 p.m. at 15400 Highway 67, near the intersection of Mina De Oro Road, said the San Diego County Fire Department. Poway Fire was assisting in the effort.

July 21, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff's Department officials report that on July 20, 2024, at about 2:30 a.m., the San Diego. Sheriff's Office Communications Center received a wireless 911 call from a cell phone near Civic Center Drive in Vista. Shortly thereafter, five males arrived at Palomar Hospital with four of the males suffering from gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, one of the victims, a 19-year-old male, succumbed to his injuries. Two other unidentified male victims are in critical condition.

Hot Temps Continue in Parts of SD County with Slightly Cooler Weather by End of Week
High pressure over the Southwest will continue hot weather through at least Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Heat advisories will remain in effect until at least 9 p.m. Sunday night throughout San Diego County mountain and valley areas including Cajon, Escondido, Santee, San Marcos, La Mesa and Poway with temperatures expected in the triple-digits.

Deputies from the San Marcos Sheriff’s Station are committed to taking illegal, privately manufactured weapons off the streets in the North County. On Saturday, July 20, just before 9:30 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on West Mission Road near Comet Circle. A passenger in the car, Victor Lopez (DOB 02/20/1999), got out of the car and ran off. Deputies quickly caught up to him and detained him. Lopez was found to be in possession of a loaded, privately manufactured weapon, also commonly known as a ghost gun.
