Fire burns at an egg production facility building in Witch Creek

WITCH CREEK, Calif. (KGTV)-- Firefighters battled a fire at an egg production facility in Witch Creek Thursday afternoon.

According to the San Diego County Fire Department, the crews contained the fire in a 25,000-square-foot building, with a possible threat of extension to vegetation.

A San Diego County Fire official said additional ground resources were called to assist, and the building was fully involved, with exposures on either side.

Fire crews were in defensive mode, trying to keep the fire to the building of origin, and there was no information of any livestock or animals inside the building, the fire department said.

Inside, there are approximately 70,000 chickens per building, and the fire caused $2 million in damage, the San Diego County Fire Department said on X.

San Diego County Sheriff's Bomb/Arson unit is investigating this incident.
