Time to Fill Up: San Diego County Gas Prices Drop Again

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County dropped 1.5 cents Saturday to $4.743.

The average price is 5.2 cents less than one week ago, 7.9 cents less than one month ago and 20.9 cents less than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It has dropped $1.692 since rising to a record $6.435 on Oct. 5, 2022.

The national average price rose one-tenth of a cent to $3.504. It is 2.4 cents less than one week ago, 4.9 cents more than one month ago, and 7.6 cents less than one year ago. The national average price has dropped $1.512 since rising to a record $5.016 on June 14, 2022.

“The arrival of summer used to signal the start of a robust driving season, but that has not been the case recently,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “We know that a record number of travelers were forecast to hit the highways for the July 4th holiday, but since then, they appear to be staying off the road, and the recent scorching heat is possibly to blame. Maybe things will pick up soon.”
