A woman has been charged after she was accused of fatally stabbing her wife and attacking her mother-in-law with a samurai sword, California prosecutors say.

Weichien Huang, 45, was charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the sword attack, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said in a July 29 news release.

Prosecutors also accused Huang of causing “serious bodily injury on a person 70 years or older” and using a sword in the attacks.

“We are deeply saddened by this horrific violence and our hearts go out to the victims’ loved ones and community,” District Attorney George Gascón said in the release. “This tragic case demonstrates the insidious problem of domestic violence that affects many throughout our country.”

Huang and her wife, later identified by the medical examiner’s office as 47-year-old Chen Chen Fei, were arguing inside their San Dimas home on July 18, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said, City News Service reported.

Armed with a katana-style sword, Huang attacked both her wife and mother-in-law, prosecutors said.

Fei died on scene , deputies said in a news release.

Fei’s injured mother, however, wrangled the sword away from Huang and ran outside the home, deputies said, the Los Angeles Times reported.

She was “hospitalized with serious injuries,” prosecutors said.

Huang was also hospitalized but was booked into jail six days later, according to prosecutors.

She is being held without bail, online jail records show.

If convicted of all charges, Huang could face life in prison, prosecutors said.

Deputies are continuing to investigate the case, according to prosecutors.
