Homeless Man Stabs 60-Year-Old, Suspect Arrested
A homeless man has been arrested by LAPD after stabbing a 60-year-old man in Venice on July 24, authorities confirmed. At around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Lincoln Boulevard, first responders arrived after receiving reports of the incident. The suspect was described as an adult Black male armed with a knife. The injured victim requested a rescue ambulance. At the time of this writing, LAPD did not have an update on his condition.

Signal Hill man pleads no contest to manslaughter after murder conviction overturned
A Signal Hill resident whose murder conviction was overturned in the April 2020 stabbing death of a man in Long Beach pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter. Edson Eduardo Rufino was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in state prison in connection with his plea, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Rep. Norma Torres says white powder sent to her SoCal office, staff sheltering in place
In what she termed an "attack" on her district office, Rep. Norma Torres of the Inland Empire says two letters were sent there containing a "white, powdery substance."Torres, D-Ontario, says while there were no injuries or illnesses reported, her staffers at the district office are sheltering in place until the substance can be analyzed."Hazmat teams are on site investigating the substance and my staff are remaining in place until more information is found," Torres wrote on X. East West Players Shine Spotlight on Historical Bigotry with 'Unbroken Blossoms'
GELFAND'S WORLD - The East West Players is a theater company which describes itself as "the longest running Asian American theater in the nation." It has a theater right around the corner from Little Tokyo, almost in the shadow of City Hall. It's gotten positive press coverage over its performance of the play Unbroken Blossoms, which completed its premiere run over the weekend. The play deals with the effect of bigotry on the Chinese American community here in Los Angeles in 1919. The astute reader will note that the idea of the play has resonance with the candidacy of Kamala Harris, considering the rank prejudice that greeted her Vice Presidency in some quarters. Experiencing the performance reminded one that there is, even now, anti-Asian prejudice in this country, including hatred that has been stirred up by the Trump faction over the past several years.
